Our Process
At Newsom Legal, we understand that family law cases require not only legal expertise but also sensitivity, empathy, and a clear strategy. Every family situation is unique, which is why we apply a structured approach that prioritizes both the rights and emotional well-being of our clients and their loved ones. Our process consists of four key stages:
Planning The Case
When a new case is received, our team begins with strategic planning focused on the client’s goals—whether it’s securing child custody, establishing visitation rights, negotiating child support, or resolving a divorce.
Example: In a divorce case involving shared property, the client expressed a desire to avoid a lengthy court battle. From the very first meeting, our team outlined a plan to pursue a peaceful settlement through mediation.
Evaluate Situation
Next, we carry out a thorough evaluation of the legal and family context. This includes analyzing documents such as marriage certificates, birth records, prior agreements, cohabitation history, and any ongoing conflicts.
Example: In a custody case, we discovered that the other parent had a history of failing to comply with previous visitation schedules. This was key in requesting a more structured and supervised custody arrangement.
Gather More Information
This stage involves collecting supplementary documentation, witness statements, psychological or social evaluations if needed, and any evidence that supports the client’s position.
Example: In a child support modification case, we gathered recent proof of the other parent's income along with receipts for school-related expenses. This allowed us to justify an increase in support payments.
File The Case To The Court
With all necessary information collected, we prepare and present the appropriate petition or defense. The goal is always to achieve the best possible resolution for the client—whether through settlement or a court hearing.
Example: In a shared custody trial, our team presented psychological evaluations that demonstrated the strong emotional bond between the child and our client. As a result, the court granted a balanced co-parenting schedule.
